Tutorial 2: Protected Blogs

Note: people can only access your protected blog if it’s associated to one or more TetherBlogs.

1. Where? At tetherblog.com near the bottom of the page, click on the “New Blog” link. You’ll need to be logged in. For help creating an account, refer to the first tutorial.

2. Fill in the form. You’ll need to pick a URL for your protected blog here, along with a title. Be sure to pick “Protected Blog” as the blog type. After you click “Add Blog”, it may take a moment for your blog to be created.

3. You have a blog! Your blog has been created. You can get there by following the “new blog” link on the page that comes up after you create your blog.

4. The dashboard. When you manage your blog’s settings or write posts, you’ll do it in the dashboard. You can get there by clicking the “Dashboard” link in the sidebar of your new blog. On the left hand side of the dashboard are menus that are expanded when you click on them. For example, if you click on the “Posts” menu, it will expand and show links to the “Edit” and “Add New” panels (pages).

5. Associations. To allow anyone but yourself access to your Protected Blog, you must associate a TetherBlog to it. When you associate a TetherBlog to your blog, users on that TetherBlog will be able to read your blog. First, click on “Settings” in the dashboard menu (on the left). Then add a blog by entering it’s URL and click the “Add TetherBlog” button. To remove an association, you can use the remove button next to it under the manage associations heading.

Now that you have a Protected Blog, you’ll probably want to learn more about using it in the next tutorial, blog basics. Also, you can return to the tutorial index or go to TetherBlog.com.
