Tutorial 4: TetherBlogs

Note: You should probably take a look at the previous tutorial, blog basics.

1. Where? At tetherblog.com near the bottom of the page, click on the “New Blog” link. You’ll need to be logged in. For more info on that, refer to the first tutorial.

2. Fill in the form. You’ll need to pick a URL for your private blog here, along with a title. Be sure to pick “TetherBlog” as the blog type. After you click “Add Blog”, it may take a moment for your TetherBlog to be created.

3. You have a TetherBlog! Your TetherBlog has been created. You can get there by following the “new blog” link on the page that comes up after you create your TetherBlog.

4. The dashboard. This is already in two tutorials, but here it is again. When you manage your TetherBlog’s settings or write posts, you’ll do it in the dashboard. You can get there by clicking the “Dashboard” link in the sidebar of your new blog. On the left hand side of the dashboard are menus that are expanded when you click on them. For example, if you click on the “Posts” menu, it will expand and show links to the “Edit” and “Add New” panels (pages).

5. Managing Pages. An easy way to personalize your TetherBlog is by adding pages. First, click on “Settings” in the dashboard menu. Under the “Pages” heading, you can select which pages you would like on your TetherBlog. Be sure to click “Save” when you’re done. When you activate a page, it’s dashboard panel becomes available in the TetherBlog menu. For more information on managing those pages, read the instructions on the administration panels.

6. Managing Users. To add a user to your TetherBlog, the user must first be signed up on TetherBlog.com. Just send them an email telling them to set up a user at TetherBlog.com and tell you when they’re done. Once they are signed up, you can add them by going to “Settings” in the dashboard and entering their email address (just under the “Users” heading). If you want to remove a user, you can do that from the same page.

That’s most of what you need to know to run a TetherBlog. Remember, more help can be found at the bottom of panels in the dashboard. You can return to the tutorial index or go to TetherBlog.com.
